Vegan Hair Products, International Travel Make Perfect Combination to Reach Local Community

Black owned businesses team up to share the value of travel

(Washington, DC —  January 12, 2019)AfroBuenaventura Transformative Travel and The Good Hair Shop— both black-owned small businesses— are teaming up to present a conversation about the power of international travel. On Saturday, January 19, 12 p.m. - 2 p.m., the two companies will host a meet-up at the Good Hair Shop located at 1548 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd, Atlanta, GA.

During a work trip to Atlanta last year, Ronnell Perry, owner of Washington, DC-based AfroBuenaventura Transformative Travel, made his way to a brightly painted storefront that caught his eye as he drove along the boulevard. He stopped and went into The Good Hair Shop; greeted by the Rollins family, a husband and wife team that run the store, providing clients with handmade vegan hair and skin products. While sampling oils, the three shared experiences about running businesses and the impact of cultural immersion, and vowed to keep in touch. After a year of following each other on social media, the Rollins invited Ronnell to meet and greet their clients in the shop and talk about the value of international travel and cultural exchange to Black communities in Latin America— such as Cartagena, Havana, and Veracruz— which is his speciality. During the meet-up scheduled for Saturday, visitors can sample personal care products while getting advice on traveling abroad and learning about the opportunities that AfroBuenaventura offers. There will be raffles, and giveaways for attendees.

Reflecting on opening her shop doors to this unique event, Kiyomi Rollins says, “When you open yourself to experience our culture around the globe we make the ancestors proud. I am excited to foster connections for my community to explore global travel with AfroBuenaventura Transformative Travel.”

AfroBuenaventura Transformative Travel curates one-of-a-kind cultural experiences in Afro-Latin America that support sustainable tourism in developing communities.
