Trace the Legacy of Resistance in Brazil's Blackest State
Join this six day cultural excursion with stops in Salvador da Bahia, the birthplace of Black Brazil, and Cachoeira, a mining town storied with tales of resistance and rebellion.
We'll start with getting a grounding in Salvador, the vibrant city known as Black Rome where we'll learn about the hands that built it and the rich heritage they left. Then we will spend two nights in Cachoeira to learn about resistance movements of maroon communities and the Irmandade da Boa Morte, a centuries old secret society of Black women that bought the freedom of their enslaved brethren, and believe that death is the ultimate freedom. We will witness their mysterious ceremonies, and join their annual candle-lit procession through the riverside town.
Come, let your senses be moved by the flavors, sights, sounds, and traditions of the Blackest city in Brazil, and be affirmed that our ancestors fought against oppression by building their own society and embracing a spirituality that transcends the physical realm.
Below is a sample itinerary, which is subject to change.
Uncover how Salvador's Black citizens gave birth to a cultural so in tuned with its Africaness. And take some time for yourself to reconnect with nature, people, and your spirit.

I learned so much about [the Afro-descendant communities] from the tours. It was a good balance to the touristic nature of other places we visited.
